I just helped my sister to buy a new set of PC, sharing here, =).
spec,
CORE 2 DUO E8400 600
WD 640.0GB 235
KINGSTON DDRII 800 2G*2 160
GA-EG31m-S2l 190
BenQ T2200HD 560
Speaker Edifier M1310 109
LG 20X8X16X/DVD-RAM 69
Keyboard+Mouse 29
Casing 90
TOTAL RM 2042

CORE 2 DUO E8400
New Core 2 Duo E8400 perform faster than Core 2 Quad Q6600 for most of the applications, Core 2 Quad Q6600 will only is a better option if you have a specific application that is able to recognize more than two cores, else stick to E8400.

WD 640.0GB
Planned to use 10G for window in C drive, 30G for applications in D drive, and 600G for Data in E drive.

KINGSTON DDRII 800 2*2G
Need to be in pair to support Dual Channel DDR.
2*2G in dual channel ddr will perform better than a single 4G ram in 1 slot.
Officially, maximum RAM can support for;
* 32-bit versions of Windows Vista Home Basic, Home Premium, Business, Enterprise, and Ultimate: 4GB
* 32-bit Windows Vista Starter: 1GB
* 64-bit versions of Windows Vista Home Basic: 8GB
* 64-bit versions of Windows Vista Home Premium: 16GB
* 64-bit versions of Windows Vista Business, Enterprise, and Ultimate: 128GB

I installed 4GB of RAM of which only 3GB was reported in Windows.
The computer shop's salesperson told me that window xp service pack 3 can recognize 4G of ram. I haven't tried it out.

Found useful link on how to Enable 4GB Ram on a Windows XP.

GA-EG31m-S2l

GIGABYTE’s DES Advanced allows the motherboard to switch to 2 Gear phase switching during idle, allowing for a dramatic increase in power savings.
Only has 2 memory slots, but more than enough.
Intel G31 - Combining performance and efficiency, with PCI-E slot for future upgrade.

Speaker Edifier M1310
Don't buy altec lancing or creative speaker if your budget is less than RM200, you can go for sonic gear, personally, i prefer Edifier's speaker because it gives better subwoofer performance.

PC fair is coming on 12 - 14 December 2008 at KL Convention Centre, personally, i prefer to shop at Low Yat for better service. You can get everything at Low Yat, except pc fair leng luis. =P.
